Basseterre: St. Kitts, Monday, November 18, 2024: Early childhood educators from both the public and private sector met at the Industrial Site Daycare Center on Thursday November 14 to participate in the third week of the training sessions hosted by the Early Childhood Development Unit.
Week three illuminated the benefits to students and the entire teaching and learning process through interactive discussions from how students communicate to conflict resolution strategies amongst the early learners.
Under the capable guidance of Ms. Julianna Powell Resource Teacher in the Early Childhood Development Unit, the educators were able to navigate various ways in which students may express themselves either verbally or non-verbally.
Ms. Seanecia Herbert Teacher鈥檚 Assistant from the Old Road Daycare Center gave feedback, 鈥淭his week鈥檚 workshop session on communication was very informative. It helped me to understand the ways in which children communicate, such as verbal and non-verbal. The session also helped me to understand how some of the techniques which I鈥檝e been using within my classroom aligns with the expectations of the Unit. I also gained a more in depth understanding of how my students share their interests and expectations.鈥�
Resource teacher in the Early Childhood Development Unit, Ms. Yasmain Powell instructed educators on the appropriate course of action that may be implemented to diffuse conflict amongst the early learners within their classrooms.
Ms. Natalie Francis, Assistant Supervisor for the St. Paul鈥檚 Daycare Center reflected on the session. 鈥淭oday鈥檚 workshop was mostly based on conflict resolution within the classroom. This workshop served as a 鈥榬efresher鈥� exercise for me as I was in the classroom before. What I learnt today, I will impart to the teachers which will enable them to effectively dispense with any disagreement between students. Conflict resolution is something that we all have to deal with on a regular basis. Thus, today鈥檚 workshop has re-enlightened me to problem solving ways.鈥�
